Simultaneous Interpretation

MGM offers the experience of over two decades in the staging small and large Simultaneous Interpretation Services in events. Currently, we count on an inventory of more than 12,000 receivers with the state-of-the-art technology in Radio Frequency and Infrared Systems, ensuring a high-level service for interpreters, clients and users.

The VHF Radio Frequency System for up to 6 channels consists of a transmitter with a range of up to 80 meters transmitting the signal to several hardly-disturbed receivers as it operates in narrow band and high VHF. Ideally, this can be used in large areas grouping a smaller number of channels. This system delivers major advantage of easy and prompt assembly.

The Infrared System is the newest technology in global market and consists of a modulator and a transmitter issuing infrared light in 9 specific channels. The infrared is captured by 2 sensors embedded in the phones and is sent to the receiver, which turns it into 9 channels of pure high quality noise-free sound. The infrared light does not go through walls, therefore these same nine channels may operate in many rooms – one adjacent to the other – with no interference among each venue. Another advantage of this system is total protection against any interference, both inside and outside, providing confidentiality, reliability and security for event contents.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is Simultaneous Interpretation?

It is a translation mode used mainly in lectures where the speaker’s message is simultaneously translated by an interpreter into another language and then transmitted to the participants of the event through their respective receivers, also known as a translation headset. Popularly this mode is called Simultaneous Translation, but the correct term is interpretation because the interpreter must interpret the speaker using voice intonation and often adjusting what is being said to be more intelligible to the listeners of another language.

  • What is Consecutive Interpretation?

In consecutive interpretation the speaker speaks for a period and pauses, so that the interpreter can translate the information to the listeners. In this mode it is not necessary to use simultaneous interpretation equipment, since the interpreter is next to the speaker with a microphone. It is important that the interpreter has a good memory to store information without anything being lost.

This modality has several disadvantages because the information is presented in parts, often losing the linearity of the information. Another disadvantage is that the lecture lasts almost twice as long, since the information is repeated twice in both languages.

Since this type of translation greatly exposes the interpreter who shares the stage with the speaker, many dislike and / or do not do this type of work.

  • Where is the interpreter at the time of simultaneous interpretation?

The interpreter sits in an acoustic booth, where he receives information through his headphone and translates into a microphone. This booth is usually located at the back of the room, where the interpreter should have an overview of the room and speaker.

  • In how many languages can I translate a lecture?

The maximum number of languages a speech can be translated is proportional to the number of channels supported by the device. Therefore, if the equipment has 9 channels, it is possible to translate the speech in 9 different languages. Remembering that an acoustic booth is required for each language.

  • The subject of my meeting is strictly confidential, how to ensure the confidentiality of the information?

In this case the ideal would be the use of Simultaneous Interpretation equipment in Infrared because, being light, it does not cross walls so the information cannot be captured by any equipment outside the room. As for service providers such as interpreters and operators, our ethics’ code is to maintain confidentiality of everything that happens in the event. There is even a clause in our contract where we guarantee this secrecy.
